Understanding and supporting veterinary mental health

The first Mind Matters Initiative Research Symposium

19-20 January 2017

Our inaugural MMI Research Symposium took place at the University of Edinburgh in January 2017, starting with a networking dinner on 19 January, which led into a fascinating day of plenary sessions and short talks on 20 January.

Nearly 100 vets, vet nurses, psychologists, students and researchers attended, and it was heralded as an inspiring and ground-breaking day.

Sessions covered the value of those with mental ill-health to the UK workforce; how RVNs cope with stress in practice; empathy and burn-out; mindfulness for students; and, embedding resilience in the veterinary curriculum, among other topics.

Thank you to all those of you who took part in the day and made it such a stimulating event. We are planning another veterinary mental health research symposium in 2019, so if you have any research that you would like to share, please contact MMI Director Lizzie Lockett.
